About Me
I am a sports journalist, specializing in written coverage of baseball, basketball, football and soccer. My early and enduring obsession with the soon to be homeless (fka Oakland) Athletics sparked my passion for sports at a young age. As a precocious and avid reader with limited athletic abilities, I devoured the daily newspapers, magazines and other publications, eventually supplemented by numerous online sports media sites. My journalism path began in a middle school blog writing class, ascended in college-level journalism programs during high school, and took off at Seattle University where I obtained a degree in communication and media studies and received valuable writing and editing experience working for the college's student-run weekly newspaper as a staff writer and copy chief.
During my two-year academic break post-graduation, I greatly expanded my journalistic portfolio through internships and freelance writing for various online publications. My work ranged from stories about professional and college soccer teams and players and Major League Baseball, to coverage of high school sports teams, local athletes, and city politics and events for hyper-local non-profit media sites. Currently, I am pursuing a master's in sports journalism at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Through this immersive, accelerated program, I am fine-tuning my skills and gaining additional experience to catapult me into this ever-changing industry.
My passion for sports and insatiable curiosity drives my desire to tell stories about players, coaches and teams that go beyond their achievements on the field or court. I want to use my knowledge and skills to engage and inspire readers–including but not limited to sports fans–demonstrating how sports reflect broader societal issues. Above all, I want to feel a sense of purpose and contribute meaningful work to this rapidly-evolving sector of the media industry.
